Right to payment of an OASI pension out of Switzerland

You live in Switzerland, you are entitled to an OASI benefit, a disabled person benefit or a supplementary pension and you would like to move abroad.

Are you still entitled to your benefit?

I am entitled to an OASI benefit

You are citizen of a country with which Switzerland has not concluded a social security agreement:

  • You lose your right to a pension

You may be entitled to the refund of your contributions but the pensions which have already been received deducted from the total amount of the refundable total. For other question regarding the refund of contributions, please contact the Swiss Compensation Office in Geneva.

Except for the survivor pension's holders: you are citizens of a country with which Switzerland has not concluded a social security agreement but the deceased person was Swiss or from a country with which Switzerland has concluded a social security agreement, you are entitled to the payment of your benefit abroad.

You are Swiss citizen, from an EU, EFTA state or from a country with which Switzerland has concluded a social security agreement:

  • You are still entitled to your benefit payment abroad

You should announce your departure to the cantonal or professional compensation office in Switzerland which pays your benefit. This office will transfer your file to the Swiss Compensation Office in Geneva which will take over the payment of your pension. The old-age and survivor pension's holder chooses the payments' address (in Switzerland or abroad) freely. The OASI benefits in favour of the pension's holders living abroad are in general paid in the local currency (country of the payments' address).

Exception:

  • As long as they do not reside in their country of origin or in Switzerland, Israeli nationals cannot receive an OASI pension because the convention requires that they must reside in one of the two contracting States.

I am entitled to a disabled person benefit

You receive benefits for disabled person (allocations pour impotent) or supplementary benefits for auxiliary means (wheelchair, hearing aid, etc):

You lose you right to these benefits when you live abroad. Only the persons who have their usual domicile and residence in Switzerland are entitled to this kind of benefits.

I am entitled to a supplementary pension

You receive an old-age pension and stay in Switzerland but your spouse and/or your child receive a supplementary pension from the OASI and they leave Switzerland:

  • If they are citizens of a country with which Switzerland has not concluded a social security agreement, your spouse and/or child lose the right to their pension.

  • If the wife and/or child are Swiss, citizens of an EU, EFTA country or a country with which Switzerland concluded an agreement, they are still entitled to their benefit payment.

You must inform their departure to the cantonal or professional compensation office which pays the benefits. This office will transfer your file on to the Swiss Compensation Office in Geneva which will take over the payment of all pensions including yours even if you stay in Switzerland. The OASI pension‘s beneficiary chooses the payments' address (in Switzerland or abroad) freely. The OASI benefits in favour of the pension holders living abroad are in general paid in the local currency (country of the payments' address).

I am entitled to a complementary benefit of an OASI or DI pension

You lose you right to these benefit when you live abroad. Only the persons who have their usual domicile and residence in Switzerland are entitled to this kind of benefit.
