Right to payment of an DI pension out of Switzerland

You live in Switzerland, you are entitled to a DI benefit and you would like to move abroad.

Are you still entitled to your benefit?

  • if you are in receipt of an ordinary disability pension, it depends on the following conditions
  1. Degree of disability
  2. Applicant's country of origin
  3. Applicant's country of residence

To find out whether you are entitled to the payment of your benefit, please select the degree of disability:


Degree of disability between 40 and 49%  

You are in receipt of a disability pension and wish to leave Switzerland:

  • If you are a Swiss national and you move to an EU or EFTA Member State: you are still entitled to the payment of your benefit.

    You loose your right to the benefit by moving outside the EU or EFTA.

  • If you are an EU national and you move to an EU Member State: you are still entitled to the payment of your benefit.

    You loose your right to the benefit by moving outside the EU.

  • If you are an EFTA national and you move to an EFTA Member State: you are still entitled to the payment of your benefit.

    You loose your right to the benefit by moving outside the EFTA.

  • If you are national of a country with which Switzerland has concluded a social security agreement: you loose your right to the benefit.

  • If you are national of a country with which Switzerland has not concluded a social security agreement: you loose your right to the benefit.

Degree of disability between 50 and 100%

If you are in receipt of a disability pension and wish to leave Switzerland:

  • If you are a Swiss, EU or EFTA national or national of a country with which Switzerland has concluded a social security convention: no matter what your country of residence is, you are entitled to the payment of your benefit.

    Exceptions:

  • If you are an Israeli national, you will only be entitled to the payment of your benefit if you reside in Israel.

  • If you are not a Swiss, EU or EFTA national or national of a State with which Switzerland has not concluded a social security agreement, you are only entitled to the payment of your benefit if you reside in Switzerland.

Payment

The payment is made in your country of residence. To find out the different payment methods in your country of residence, please refer to the payment section.

  • if you are in receipt of a disability allowance: you loose your entitlement to this benefit by moving outside Switzerland.
  • if you are in receipt of an extraordinary disability pension: we invite you to contact our Office before your departure abroad so that we may determine whether the right to this benefit can be maintained.  

Revision of the disability pension

The pensions are generally revised without consultation or at the request of the beneficiary.                    

The pension is revised in the country of residence of the insured person through the social security office of this country. Exceptionally the DI office could demand a medical examination in Switzerland.
