International coordination of social security

Switzerland is linked to around 50 countries through international, bilateral or multilateral agreements, allowing it to coordinate its social security system with those of its partners.

These agreements are aimed at facilitating the geographical and professional mobility of the nationals of the contracting states and their families, by ensuring better coordination of the various social security systems. In addition to promoting equal treatment of the nationals of the contracting states and defining the applicable legislation, the agreements can also provide for easier access to benefits and for their export.
