Medical expertise in Switzerland
To determine work capacity, a medical assessment in Switzerland may be necessary. A list of authorised experts is published annually.
Depending on the situation, an investigation in the form of a medical expertise may be necessary in order to determine the consequences of the health impairment on the capacity to work according to the criteria of the Swiss disability insurance. Such an expertise may also be ordered by the Court. The expertise is carried out in a national language spoken by the insured person or with the assistance of a translator.
Each year, the disability insurance offices publish a list containing details of all experts and assessment centres commissioned (Art. 41b RAI). The data is captured from 1st January to 31st December of any given calendar year and published by the DI offices on 1st march of the following year.

Monodisciplinary expertise
The assignment is based on the expert’s specialisation, availability as well as geographical and linguistic criteria. The experts appointed have the necessary qualifications and experience to carry out the expertise and work in complete independence.
Bi- and multidisciplinary expertise
When a bi- or multidisciplinary expertise is necessary, the mandate is assigned randomly on the national platform Suissemed@p.
